It's not every day we introduce a first-time showcase from Costa Rica to our line-up. Welcome Aquiares from Cartago: a classic example of the soft and chewy, baked-sugar sweetness, with hints of floral notes associated with coffee from the region. Produced by Diego Robelo, this coffee is notable for being a Centroamericano H1 hybrid varietal. Particularly valued for its high yield and rust resistance, as well as its complex and elegant flavour profile, this H1 hybrid was created by crossing the Sarchimor T-5296 with a wild Rume Sudan variety. Reproduced through a tissue culture cloning process known as somatic embryogenesis, this cultivar has been distributed to coffee producers in Central America for over 10 years, so we'll be seeing it pop up more regularly. Considered by many as Costa Rica's hidden coffee gem, Turrialba, where this lot comes from, is well-suited for growing this new variety thanks to its rich volcanic soils. Full-bodied and deliciously sweet, Aquiares delivers the perfect morning cup.
