About

We've been sourcing this standout Huehuetenango coffee since 2016 — a vibrant, fruity Guatemalan that breaks all the usual rules. The coffee is produced by Marvin Soliz in Guatemala's highlands. El Witano sits near Guatemala's border with Mexico in the small community of El Coyegual, San Antonio Huista, and the farm's name references a local tree species, connecting it to the landscape. At elevation, the cooler mountain climate slows the maturation of the coffee cherries, allowing more time for sweetness and complexity to develop. Combined with careful processing, the resulting coffee offers bright fruit notes and a lively character rather than the traditional Guatemalan chocolate and nutty profile. Marvin is a second-generation producer; his brother Antulio helps manage operations. Quality practices include selective harvesting of ripe cherries, meticulous milling with calibrated equipment, 36-hour fermentation, washing, and slow patio drying. The 2-hectare farm produces approximately 4,140kg annually of Caturra and Bourbon varieties.
