About

We're excited to share this lot from the remote village of Lauca, in Masma, Junin. This tiny community is made up of only 3 families. Coffee production is new to the area and this lot was grown by Samuel Muñoz and Raúl Ames. Each of them have a farm of around 1 hectare. Once the coffee is harvested the cherries are pulped and the green is put into open tanks to ferment for 36 hours before being removed and washed. In Jauja the climate is warm and humid meaning the drying time is a little longer than other parts of Peru. This is not the only challenge Samuel and Raúl face producing in Lauca. Transporting the coffee can be tricky. The infrastructure is minimal to say least. One solution the guys came up with is moving coffee by zipline...

Roaster Notes

"Grown by Samuel Muñoz and Raúl Ames, two of only three families in the village of Lauca, Masma, Junín, each farming around 1 hectare. Extended fermentation: cherries are pulped and fermented in open tanks for 36 hours before washing, with an extended drying time due to the warm, humid climate around Jauja."
